The Principle of Leadership – Institute

Date September 8, 2026 Author Renniel

Leadership guided by Godly principles is one of the most rewarding experiences we can have during our mortal journey. True leadership is not merely about serving others; it is also about leading with humility, compassion, and integrity.

As President Dallin H. Oaks wisely said, “It’s amazing how much you can get done if you don’t worry about who gets the credit.” 2010 BYU News article

True leadership is demonstrated not by seeking recognition, but by faithfully serving others and helping them succeed. When we lead according to Godly principles, we shift our focus away from ourselves, but instead toward making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve following the example of our Savior Jesus Christ.

During our lesson, we were talked about the ups and downs between leaders and team members, along with scriptural experiences and how the characters responded in the midst of problems. We discussed how leaders obey, why some fail, and what the root causes and costs of those failures are. We also discussed how identifying issues. Serving God means serving people. Leading others means responding to God’s calling. In doing so, we demonstrate humility, while taking action is a sign of obedience.

Obeying God and following His plan, with the guidance of the Holy Ghost, is like having a map during our journey in the real world of leadership. For me, leadership is not necessarily something that must be appointed or given by someone or an organization. As we partake of the sacrament, we remember that precious love and forgiveness. We are forgiven and loved. Every time we partake of the sacrament, we remember Jesus Christ and His service and His Leadership, who was crucified and died for us not that He needs to be crucified and die again and again, but so that what He has done for us may continue in our lives and through our actions toward others.

As Jesus said in Matthew 28:19, …He is with us to the very end of our age… Jesus Christ is the perfect example of a Leader. His Love, Compassion, and Obedience to Heavenly Father during His mortal life demonstrate what true leadership should be.
